Julie Smith

Julie Smith was born and raised on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in the small town of Crumpton.

A graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Julie was also a Division I golfer. After graduating in 2000, she began her professional career in the golf industry as an Assistant Golf Professional at Queenstown Harbor Golf Links. It was there that she met her husband, Robert Smith, now the Personal Lines Manager at Ashley Insurance.

In November 2001, Julie joined Upland Golf Club in Denton, Maryland, where she played an instrumental role in the design, startup, and management of the new golf course. She became the youngest female Head Golf Professional in the state of Maryland and remained at Upland until 2004, when she decided to transition into a new career while starting her family.

After the birth of her daughter, Emily, in March 2004, Julie joined MetLife, specializing in Life & Health Insurance and Variable Annuities. In April 2005, she joined Ashley Insurance, where she quickly earned her Property & Casualty license and immersed herself in every aspect of the agency. She began in Personal Lines while learning the agency’s Farm Insurance operations before moving into Commercial Lines, where she was rapidly promoted to Commercial Lines Manager.

Julie was named Vice President in 2010, taking on the responsibility of managing the agency’s day-to-day operations. In 2015, she was promoted to President of Ashley Insurance, where she continues to oversee the agency while specializing in Commercial and Farm Insurance. Her leadership has helped the agency continue its tradition of providing knowledgeable, personalized service to clients throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Julie lived in Crumpton until 2022, when her family moved to their family farm. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching her son, Nate, compete as a Division III golfer at Christopher Newport University, and coaching and supporting the sport of lacrosse.

Julie is especially proud that both of her children have followed in the family’s commitment to hard work and service. Her daughter, Emily, is a licensed insurance agent who has worked at Ashley Insurance for the past seven years and is currently attending the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law after graduating from the University of South Carolina. Her son, Nate, also works at Ashley Insurance while pursuing his insurance license alongside his studies at Christopher Newport University.

Known for her dedication, accessibility, and commitment to both clients and employees, Julie believes relationships are the foundation of great service. She prides herself on being available whenever her clients and team need her, providing guidance and support with the same level of care and responsiveness that has defined her career for more than two decades.
